Endoscopy plays a large role in both my general medicine and referral practice. Having always wanted to offer the best service to my patients I realized early on in my career that it was as important to have an endoscope as it was to have a radiology unit or ultrasound. I am firm believer that you need to invest in yourself if you want to be able to provide that level of care. It didn’t take long to realize that having the nice equipment not only allowed me to practice a higher level of medicine, but also, increase my income at the same time. It wasn’t long before I realized that I needed a flexible scope. On top of the obvious advantages, having the scope brings referrals, second opinions (people would prefer a fish hook removal via endoscopy rather than surgery) and prestige. Advanced equipment is also attractive to potential new hires and, for the basic applications, has a short learning curve. The scope makes it possible for me to be a better veterinarian by increasing my diagnostic capabilities, my therapeutic reach and my bottom line – which in turn allows me to purchase even more equipment!
